Maria Cristina Carlini (Italy)
“Obelisco”
Obelisco is a monumental work never seen before, made by the sculptress Maria Cristina Carlini at the end of 2015: through a contemporary perspective it gives a new interpretation of one of the oldest celebratory monuments in the History of Art. It is characterized by a steep vertical ascent and it is more that 4m high; it is made up of a corten steel casing that encloses a core of partly pitted salvaged wood. The tension – pitching upwards – hints at a positive attitude towards the future.
