DIANA ZABARELLA

Diana Zabarella (Italy)

Laguna

Diana Zabarella is an architect living and working in Venice. This city – known for the crafting of wood, glass and textiles – has provided her with the opportunity to explore the techniques and skills necessary to reinterpreting traditional materials and forms while pursuing in her work quality craftsmanship as well as a balance between lightness and sustainability. In her creative process, Diana Zabarella incorporates lessons learned in intaglio printmaking, Japanese calligraphy and Raku ceramics that enrich her design process with a component of dexterity and gestural spontaneity.

Laguna includes four different products, two of which are new creations employing textiles produced in collaboration with Luigi Bevilacqua of Venice: the Bozzolo pouf / coffee table and the Canfin lamp. The Bozzolo, in wood with a removable padded seat, evokes a silkworm cocoon, both in its shape and in the silk used in making the velvet fabric. The Canfin, in wood and fabric, rechargeable LED, recalls the Venetian oil lamp once used on boats, outdoors and in the home. She has paired these with the Peggy chair, produced by Reflex Angelo in wood and foam with leather or fabric upholstery, and the Daisy flower-shaped magazine rack, produced by Roche Bobois in eco-leather.

The entire collection conjures the bright colours of Venice lagoon.
